O R G A N I Z E D KEEPING IT 10 THINGS TO GET RID OF TODAY MARIE TORGUEMAN Now is a great time to gain control of your home and start clearing out all the stuff that’s been accumulating. You’ll notice quickly that much of it isn’t that important and you may wonder why you were holding onto it all for so long. If getting rid of stuff is a challenge for you, consider donating certain items to others who would actually use and appreciate them. You’ll end up with a cleaner, more organized space in the process. Here are some easy categories to get you started. Go ahead and LET THESE GO! Style SPIRIT & FORTHEWOMANOFTODAY HAPPYORGANIZING! 1. KITCHEN UTENSILS You’ll definitely find things in this drawer that you know you’ll never use. (Egg timer? Meat mallet?) 2. COFFEE MUGS Do you really need 20 different ones? Let some go! 3. PLASTIC CONTAINERS This is an easy one; toss containers without matching lids. 4. VASES Unless you’re a florist, you probably won’t use every vase you own. Collect as many as you can and give them to your favorite florist. 5. SPICES Give your spices a “smell & taste” test. Chances are some are old and tasteless. 6. BOOKS Keep your favorites or share them with friends. Put outgrown children’s’ books in storage or donate them to school libraries. 7. ELECTRONIC CORDS Sort through that “jungle” of cords and discard them if you don’t have the device to which they belong. 8. MEDICINE Check expiration dates and toss the bottles that are outdated. 9. EXERCISE EQUIPMENT Donate what you don’t need to camps, sports programs and gyms. 10. “SIPPY CUPS” If you have young children you probably have too many of these.
