1,000 STUDENTS, 68 SCHOOLS, 4 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, 3 TOP WINNERS 1 of them, our very own Albert Cohen 8th Grade Student Yeshivat Shaare Torah Boys Elementary Division The challenge was to redact an original piece for the Second Annual Student Visual Arts and Literacy contest “The Holocaust Diaries”. It was truly a privilege to partici- pate in such an inspiring and crucial contest and Shaare Torah Boys Elementary Division would like to thank KHEC for this wonderful opportunity. We want to congratulate Albert Cohen as well as all the other winners and participants who have worked very hard to inspire us and to honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. You have made us proud. Mr. Irving Roth and the Adopt a Survivor program have generously contributed their time and effort to teach, inform and empower the four generations of surrogate survivors of Yeshivat Shaare Torah Boys Elementary Division. Our eighth graders have met with survivors who courageously revisit excruci- ating memories in order to ensure that we never forget the evil per- petuated by the Nazis and their ac- complices. Our students have been inspired by these men and wom- en whose childhoods were cruelly interrupted. With the help of the survivors, literarymaterial provided by their teachers and the opportu- nity to ask questions, the 8th grad- ers have produced extensive work of response to literature, essays, photo essays and diaries. Shaare Torah is extremely proud to announce that one of its very own students has won the third place in a Holocaust Literacy con- test organized by the Kleinman Holocaust Education Center.
