CM: It’s no secret that you shared a very close relationship with Rabbi Avigdor Miller, zt”l. Can you tell us a little about how you met, and describe the relationship you shared with this great tsaddik ? Sam: Without getting into the long story of how we became so close, I can tell you that I made quite an effort to develop the level of closeness I shared with the Rabbi, zt”l . I was with him for seventeen years, 1984-2001. I would attend his Shabbat aggadta class, sitting directly in front of the Rabbi. He would even call on me to repeat what he had said. Eventually, I merited having a private ten-minute meeting every Friday night with Rabbi Miller. For seven years I was zoche to hear priceless word of mussar on Friday nights. I’d bring my father, my kids, and often offer some members of the Ahi-Ezer Synagogue a chance to join me in meeting the Gadol Ha’dor. CM: What are some of the topics you talk about on the air? Sam: Well, the name of the program is “Through the Eyes of Rabbi Avigdor Miller.” The program is focused mainly on the awareness of Gd, and the many different methods we can use to better connect with Him, and reach high levels. We typically realize these truths through analyzing Hashem’s creations and our own bodies. CM: What do you hope people gain from your talks? Sam: I want listeners towalk awaywith the knowledge of the “Shaar HaBehina” (“Gate of Examination,” Duties of the Heart. Chapter 2). I want listeners to understand that anybody can connectwith Hashem simply by examiningHis miraculous creations. We see from all of Gd’s handiwork His wisdom, power, and kindness.
