Sportsman of the Month THE MEYER REAL ESTATE This month’s Meyer Real Estate Sportsman of the Month is… D espite the prediction of rain, the 11th annual Summer Hatzalah Golf Classic went on without a hitch – and wouldn’t you know, it turned out to be a bright and beautiful day. In fact, the only thing brighter than the sun that day was golf star Marty Cohen. As in their previous tournaments, various contests were held throughout the day, including straightest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest, hole-in-one contest, and others. And although Marty Cohen did not cop first place in any of these events on this particular day, Marty was his usual self – Mr. Consistency – and was in the thick of most of the races throughout the day. No stranger to the sport, Marty is an avid golfer who has won his share of golf trophies, including a few in some of the previous Hatzalah Golf Classic tournaments. Marty is not only a tremendous golfer – he is a golfer with “style.” One award that he would win every year – hands down – is Best Dressed Golfer. Ask any fellow golfers or community members who had the privilege of playing with Marty about his greatest strengths, and you will receive the same response. Marty’s greatest assets are his middot . He is a gentlemen’s gentleman on and off the greens. Considerate, humble, and just fun to be around – and, oh – a fierce competitor. This year’s Golf Classic rewarded contest winners with fantastic prizes and awards. Prizes included Maui Jim sunglasses personally fitted by a Maui Jim representative and over $3,000 in cash awards. Former NY Yankee star Ron Bloomberg (Major League Baseball’s first designated hitter) was also at the event. He was very friendly and gracious as he signed autographs and shared stories of his days playing with the Yankees. Proceeds from the event are used to help fund the operational costs of the Hatzalah organization. It is people like Marty Cohen that make important fundraisers such as this successful. Marty is also involved in other charitable organizations in the community and can always be counted on for his support, advice, and guidance. We are very proud to name Marty Cohen our Sportsman of the Month. Congrats Marty! Marty Cohen NOMINATE ACANDIDATE If you or your league would like to nominate a candidate who displays skill, sportsmanship, and community values that warrant recognition, simply send in the athlete’s name along with a photo and a brief summary, including statistics and accomplishments, to: Sports@CommunityM.com. Athletes involved in any of our community’s sports leagues, events, tournaments, or other organized play are eligible. Please note that this honor is not necessarily awarded to the highest scorer or to the top rated player, but rather to the best all-around sportsman. A true sportsman is not interested in winning at all costs, but rather plays the game while demonstrating good values, teamwork, courteousness, self-discipline, and respect for all players.
