Prospective donors know that any solicitor registered with Charity Safebox is trusted and reliable, and thus solicitations can be made without uneasy feelings of suspicion and disdain. Girded with this confidence, they are more likely to open their hearts to support their fellow Jews in need. It would be no exaggeration to say that the Charity Safebox is saving lives by helping needy individuals receive the help they desperately need. Adam (not his real name), the son of a single mother, was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of six. The treatments were prohibitively expensive, and far, far beyond his disadvantaged family’s means. An account was set up with Charity Safebox with Adam’s profile, and the donations that came in to his virtual box paid for the entire series of treatments. The website now hosts approximately 40 institutions and private causes, and continues growing. The project has received the endorsement of virtually all our community’s rabbis, including Rabbi Haim Benoliel, Rabbi Meir Yedid, Rabbi Shimon Alouf and Rabbi Yaacov Ben Haim. It is also supported by Rabbi Aharon Moshe Schechter, Rosh Yeshivat Chaim Berlin. The Charity Safebox is used by many of the well-known generous donors of our community, such as the Chehebar family, the Gindi family, the Haber family, and many others. Loving kindness is described by our sages as one of the three “pillars” upon which the world stands, and we are the bearers of a sacred, longstanding legacy of charity that began with our patriarch, Avraham. The Charity Safebox is protecting this cherished tradition of giving from the criminals who seek to threaten it, and allowing us to fulfill this most precious mitzvah, reap its incalculable benefits, and experience the unparalleled joy of helping a fellow Jew.
