38 COMMUNITY MAGAZINE Inside the store, the bigger aisles and added registers make for an airy, enjoyable shopping trip. One long-time customer, who had always endured the store’s crowded hustle and bustle, says that in the new supermarket she leaves quicker than ever before and barely notices the people around her. Not only is the shopping easier and faster, but the selection is better. Every department has been revitalized. There’s a larger take-out section with a special warming area where you can buy hot barbecue chicken. There is fresh produce and a tasty sushi section. There are more products for those who eat only Chalav Yisrael dairy. The bakery sports two new ovens, with all pastries baked on premises. There is a pizza counter where you can buy a fresh pie for your family. But it is the meat section that has by far garnered the most attention and fanfare. Expanded Meat Department Moisha’s now offers a new line of meat under BYL hashgahah – a premier hashgocha for the Sephardic community. Overseen by Rabbi Moshe Cohen, BYL closely supervises the entire process of preparation, including the shehitah and the repackaging. Beyond providing this Sephardic hashgahah , Moisha’s will also soon be offering an array of Sephardic dishes for purchase. “The goal of the meat department is to accommodate the whole Flatbush community,” a proud staff member explains. “It’s about service – giving a quality product with an exemplary hashgahah at a very good price.” A full crew of professional butchers prepares the meat in a state-of-the-art facility. Beef, chicken, veal, lamb, turkey, marinated, oven-ready items, pickled meats, corn beef, pastrami, chicken cutlets, spicy, sweet, whatever you wish – it’s available in the meat department. The crew is available to take orders by phone and accommodate custom orders, such as special cuts of meat or specific kinds of grinding. Both boneless and bone-in meat, as well as BYL rib steak and flanken, are all on display. With Purim fast approaching and Pesach not long after, Moisha’s is getting ready for the holidays. Festive mishloah manot baskets are being brought in for Purim, and the meat department will be koshered anew for Pesach. Those traveling to Orlando, Florida for the holiday have the option of shopping at Moisha’s and having their food delivered in refrigerated trucks. Those staying here in the Big Apple can fill orders by fax, e-mail or phone and have them delivered right to their door. “Everything is new at Moisha’s except the low prices,” the store’s slogan reads. Moisha emphasizes that despite the vast improvements that have been made, the low prices are here to stay. “We’re not increasing prices,” he says, “just making the shopping more convenient for people.” Accommodating the Whole Flatbush Community Moisha anticipates that the dramatic upgrades will ensure that his current customers keep coming back and will be joined by many new customers. What began as a charitable venture in Boro Park is now offering our community the products we want at great prices, and the opportunity to continue our proud, longstanding tradition of hesed. This is an opportunity 25 years in the making, and one which Moisha excitedly looks forward to continuing to offer well into the future.
