skin deep Mrs. Esty Saadia, Makeup Artist 7 Concealer Tricks and Tips 1. For under eye circles, darkness or puffiness, skip the cream concealer and opt for a brightener or illuminator to diffuse and reflect light. 2. For imperfections like breakouts, scars and sunspots, look for a cream concealer in an exact skin match. 3. When using cream concealer for maximum coverage, don’t use your fingers, because this will thin out the coverage. Instead, pat on the skin with a brush and then blend away any visible edges. 4. To camouflage redness caused by rosacea or acne, use a green corrective concealer. To cover blue or purple under the eyes or over veins, use a peach corrective concealer. 5. If you use a liquid foundation, apply concealer after the foundation so it doesn’t get moved around. If you use a powder foundation, apply concealer first so it sets in place. 6. Always use a primer first if applying concealer to an area with fine lines or wrinkles. Otherwise, the concealer will settle into the skin and draw more attention to the wrinkles. 7. To get more for your money, you can also apply cream concealer to lids as an eye base and to lips to neutralize the natural liptone before applying color to get a true shade payoff. garage gab Ralph Czeisler, Emil’s All Tire - Edited by Rachel Dayan Turn it Off A common automotive misconception holds that shutting off and restarting a vehicle frequently, damages the engine and burns a lot of gas. In reality, ten seconds of idling uses roughly the same amount of fuel as turning off the engine and restarting. Idling also gets zero miles per gallon of gas! Worse, idling can actually damage your engine because fuel is only getting partially combusted, causing a buildup of fuel residue on cylinder walls that can damage engine components, and leads to increased fuel consumption. So follow this rule of thumb: if you will be parked more than 20 or 30 seconds, shut your engine. They are the trained professionals, experts in their fields and masters of their domains. But the problem usually has nothing to do with their eyes or the camera – but rather their index finger. Most cameras have an autofocus feature which requires a light press on the shutter button to activate. People who press the button hard – and without waiting for the autofocus to adjust – end up with blurry pictures both because the lens is not in perfect focus and because their hard button press shakes the camera at the moment the picture is taken. Avoid this by holding the camera firmly and gently pressing the button – not the camera – first to activate the autofocus, and then slightly more to take the picture. 64 COMMUNITY MAGAZINE
