Healthy NY provides health insurance to New Yorkers who need it most. The New York State Department of Financial Services oversees the program, which is governed by state law and regulation. Healthy NY offers comprehensive health insurance to individuals, sole proprietors and small businesses. New York State law requires all HMOs to offer Healthy NY, and other insurers may participate. You can apply to any of the HMOs in your county. There are eligibility requirements that you must meet in order to purchase Healthy NY. The eligibility requirements are different for individuals, sole proprietors and small businesses. Healthy NY’s streamlined benefit package, combined with state funding, creates more affordable coverage. Healthy NY includes health benefits that cover essential health needs including inpatient and outpatient hospital services, physician services, maternity care, preventive health services, diagnostic services and emergency services. You may also choose an optional prescription drug benefit.
