Free Towing - Tax Deductible Community Chest Singing the Praise of Ezer Mizion Six-year-old Shachar had a dream. He loves music and could often be found with a make-believe microphone in his hand, pretending to be a concert singer, chanting the latest popular songs. Shachar’s parents also have a dream. More than anything, they want their child to live. You see, Shachar has bone cancer. While the oncology clinic treats the physical illness, Ezer Mizion treats the emotional and psychological effects of cancer, helping the patient, his siblings and parents overcome the trauma brought on by the nightmare they are facing. With love and caring, with fun and games, Ezer Mizion’s professionally-trained staff deals with the worries and fears of the family through enjoyable activities such as sandbox play, stories, music and even a petting zoo. The close connection between body and spirit is well-known among medical experts, and thus Ezer Mizion tries to bring joy into the life of the patient in an effort to empower his spirit to help the body in its fight for life. For Shachar, joy and singing are synonymous. And his ultimate joy would be singing on a real radio station, as opposed to singing with a fake microphone. At Ezer Mizion, nothing stands in the way of bringing joy to a young cancer patient. And that is how Shachar found himself, together with many of his friends at Ezer Mizion’s home for cancer patients, singing away on radio like a pro. Fittingly, the song Shachar and his friends chose to sing was a classic Israeli song titled, “ Kama Tov Yiheyeh Bashanah Haba’ah – How Good Will it be Next Year.” The song talks of the simple dreams that people have, like sitting on the porch together with family and appreciating the little things in life. Shachar’s radio debut was recorded on video and is available online. For more information about Ezer Mizion, visit www. ezermizion.org . Golf and Israel – a Hole in One!
