I N ONLY ITS SECOND YEAR OF OPERATION , YDE Boys High School continues to exceed expectations, growing in both size and substance by leaps and bounds. To support this explosive expansion, the burgeoning Yeshiva last month announced plans to move into a new, state-of-the-art building in the heart of Brooklyn’s Syrian- Sephardic community. To mark the official announcement, YDE held a ground breaking – or, more accurately, a “wall breaking” – ceremony on September 28, 2012, formally inaugurating their newbuildingat 2533Coney IslandAvenue, off Avenue V. The sprawling one-story building, which had previously served as a car dealership, will be completely renovated from top to bottom over the next several months. The ambitious project, planned in several phases, will begin with the construction of comfortable classrooms and public spaces that can accommodate more than 300 students. Amenities will include a nearly 4,000-square foot bet midrash, large modern classrooms, a science lab, a state of the art gymnasium, a student lounge, and an outdoor recreational area. The edifice will feature a red brick façade, a modern clock tower, and numerous windows to allow for copious amounts of sunlight throughout the building. There will also be a large parking lot and driveway, ensuring safe and convenient student drop-off and pickup. Charged with carrying out the accelerated renovations is well-known builder Moshe Nachum of MNC Contracting. As an active member of the community, Mr. Nachum (who recently completed construction on the Madison area mikveh ) views this project more as a holy mission, rather than a contracting a job. With Hashem’s help, and barring unforeseen delays, the Yeshiva hopes to complete the first phase of the project within several months, in time to allow the school’s 9th, 10th and 11th grade students to move into the new building during the current school year.
