Other Alerts H ADASH GRAIN PRODUCTS , may appear on shelves early this year as the new season may start earlier than originally estimated. Our estimated packing cutoff date for oats is Jul 21, one week earlier than normal. The latest report does not mention any harvest of spring wheat or barley. We are quite certain that the harvest of these crops must also on the way by now and should be reported by the next weekly update from the USDA. Pending future reports, our preliminary estimate for spring wheat hadash date is Aug 2, and barley Aug 7. These dates refer to the earliest packing date when hadash may start to appear in manufactured items. These tentative dates should be finalized in the next 1-2 weeks. Note that according to the OU, oats from General Mills, Quaker and Malt-O- Meal should be yashan at least through Sept 15. Yoseph Herman, July 18, 2012. M ONTREAL DRINKING WATER , is permissible to drink according to halacha. In response to queries regarding insects which were found in the water, after much investigation carried out by our experts, as well as specialists of the City of Montreal’s Water Department, it was found that the prevalence of insects in the drinking water at present is only an uncommon minority, not at all similar to the situation in New York. We are in contact with the experts of the City of Montreal’s Water Department, who are tak- ing this very seriously and are doing everything possible to find the source of this phenomenon, and have promised to do everything in their power to eliminate any incidence of these insects as soon as possible. We will continue to advise the public with any further develop- ments. Consumers who have purchased the products and have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
