JUDGE ! BE THE A HANUKAH FIRE Jack and his family were spending their Hanukah vacation in Israel. Upon arrival at their hotel, they inquired about menorah lighting, and the concierge informed them that they were to light their menorah in the main lobby, as lighting in the hotel rooms was forbidden. After much consideration, Jack decided to nevertheless light the menorah in his room in order to fulfill the missva of lighting in one’s own residence and took extra precautionary measures by placing the menorah on a metal tray away from the windowsill. While Jack and his family were out for dinner, a blazing fire consumed the contents of the room, burning the furniture, drapes, bedspreads and rug. According to the insurance report, the fire started from an unusually strong wind gust that burst open the window and blew the drapes into the candles. The hotel owner demanded that Jack reimburse him for the cost of his insurance policy deductible, but Jack explained that he had taken every precaution and the accident was beyond his control.
