86 Community magazine THE NEXT BEST THiNG Jane, an account executive in a large company, was planning a trip to the home office. Very rigid about her exercise schedule, she wanted to find a hotel with an exercise facility. She called several hotels asking if they had a weight room, but they all answered, “No”. Finally, after much searching, she found one that sounded accommodating. After checking with her manager, the front desk clerk at the nearby Lakeside Inn replied, “While we don’t exactly have a dedicated weight room… we do have a lobby that you can wait in.” Jack V. Grazi wiLD wORLD OF wEDDiNGS Returning from the first ever wedding on the planet Mars, Edna seemed disappointed. “What’s wrong?” her friend Esther asked, “the band was no good?” “No, the band was great,” Edna responded. “The food was lousy?” asked Esther. “The food was fantastic – out of this world,” Edna replied. “So then what was the problem?” Esther urged. “Honestly,” Edna answered with a sigh, “there was just no atmosphere.” Chanch E. LooLoo A STATE OF pLENTY Four women were driving together cross country. Each was from a different state: Idaho, Nebraska, Florida and New York. Shortly after the trip began, the woman from Idaho pulled a sack of potatoes from her bag and threw it out the window. “What are you doing?” demanded the Nebraskan. “We have so many of these things in Idaho, I’m just sick of looking at them!” A moment later, the woman from Nebraska pulled a bag full corn from her bag and tossed it from the window. “What are you doing that for?” asked the passenger from Florida. “We have so many of these things in Nebraska, I am just sick of looking at them!” Inspired, the lady from Florida opened the car door and pushed the New Yorker out. Adina Esses iNTERESTED iN A LOAN After checking into a posh New York City hotel, a wealthy businessman from Connecticut drove his Rolls- Royce to a local bank and asked for an immediate loan of $5,000. The loan officer, suspicious by the request, demanded collateral. “Here are the keys to my Rolls-Royce,” the man said, “it’s worth over $200,000 and the bank can take it if I don’t repay the loan.” The loan officer promptly had the car driven into the bank’s underground parking for safe keeping and gave the man the $5,000 at 7½ percent interest. Two weeks later, the man walked through the bank’s doors and asked to settle up his loan and get his car back so he can go back to Connecticut. “That will be $5,000 in principal, and $14.38 in interest,” the loan officer said. The man wrote out a check and started making his way to the parking garage. “Wait, sir,” the loan officer said. “You’re a millionaire. Why in the world would you need to borrow $5,000 and why would you use your car as collateral?” With a big smile on his face, the man explained, “Where else in Manhattan could I park a Rolls-Royce for two weeks for less than 15 bucks?” Michael Lalehfar Riddle: Truth in Fictionistan SUBMITTED BY: Raphael Cohen Arriving in a foreign country, Eddie asks a group of three men for directions and gets three different answers.
