As Always Albert’s Is Bishul Yisrael Sepharadi Women Join to Recommit to Seniut in 5770 This year’s annual pre-Rosh Hashanah day of inspiration focusing on seniut (modesty), was held in Shaare Zion on the 25 th of Elul (Monday, September 14), under the experienced leadership of Mrs. Violet Chkouri. The room was packed with women who have taken steps to commit themselves to keep this special missva , and those who are on the way towards greater observance of seniut . The program began with Tehillim and words of Torah from Mrs. Chkouri. She emphasized that gathering in the spirit of ahava (love) and teshuva (repentance) will bring Hashem’s rahamim (mercy) down to us. When Hashem sees that we care about each other, He shows his care for us. The women then heard two awe-inspiring stories of women who committed themselves to covering their hair and keeping the laws of seniut . One involved a woman who took upon herself greater observance of seniut after repeated miscarriages, and the other was about a woman who made modesty a top priority while her newborn was in critical condition. The event also featured a special address by Rabbi Raymond Beyda, who noted that the function of clothes is to force us to look past the body. Our beings consist of a soul and a body. The distraction of an exposed body obscures the soul, the primary and more essential part of the person. Hacham Yosef Raful, Rosh Yeshiva of Ateret Torah, reminded the women that the gathering was being held on the 25 th of Elul, the birthday of the world. When we take a positive attitude towards our surroundings, the Rosh Yeshiva said, we see what a wonderful place Hakadosh Baruch Hu made for us. The final speaker was Rebbissen Kviat, who showed how seniut is a spiritual gift that helps us keep the proper focus on our true purpose in life. – Pnina Souid Add A Little Paprika Paprika shoe stores are expanding their line of shoes to include little girls’ sizes 12 and up.
