BAKING HALLAH AFTER PESAHWITH A KEY TO ONE’S HOME INSIDE THE BREAD IS A SEGULAH FOR PARNASA (LIVELIHOOD). of the Month Segula Shelisheet meal, which normally should consist of bread. A number of different customs exist with regard to this issue. • The Zohar comments that the occasion of Shabbat Erev Pesah marks the only instance when halachah does not require eating Se’udah Shelisheet . Those who generally follow the Zohar should eat fruit on Shabbat afternoon in lieu of Se’udah Shelisheet . • Others, however, eat meat or fish for Se’udah Shelisheet . • Yet a third custom is to soak massa in egg and then fry it before Shabbat, in which case it may be eaten on Erev Pesah (with the usual berachah of ha’mosi ). • Another tradition advocates partaking of egg massa – after recit- ing the berachah of mezonot – for Se’udah Shelisheet in such a case. One should consult with his Rabbi for personal guidance on this mat- ter. According to all views, one should recite Minha Gedolah (early minha ) and then eat Se’udah Shelisheet as soon as possible, before the tenth hour of the day (see chart of times). If one did not, for whatever reason, eat Se’udah Shelisheet before the tenth hour, he should eat meat, fish or fruit, but not any food requiring ha’mosi or mezonot . 7) Resting on Shabbat afternoon As on every Shabbat, it is a misvah to rest on Shabbat. However, one should not explicitly state that he rests in order to help him remain awake late into the night, as this would constitute prepar- ing on Shabbat for after Shabbat. 8) Candle lighting, Arbit, and Seder preparations One may not make any preparations for the seder , such as setting the table or washing vegetables, until Shabbat has ended and one has recited either “ Baruch hamavdil ben kodesh le’kodesh ” or the arbit service with the additional paragraph of Va’todi’enu . (If one recited arbit but mistakenly omitted Va’todi’enu , he may not make any preparations for the seder until he recites “ Baruch hamavdil ben kodesh le’kodesh .”) Once Shabbat has ended, women should recite “ Baruch hama- vdil ben kodesh le’kodesh ” and light the Yom Tov candles from an existing flame. Some women recite the berachah of shehe- heyanu when they light candles, while others fulfill this obligation by listening to the berachah during kiddush . Each woman should follow her mother’s practice in this regard. 9) Kiddush and Habdalah : The procedure for kiddush at the seder follows the sequence represented by the acro- nym Yaknehaz (  ): Yayin (“ Borei peri ha’gefen ”), Kiddush (“ Asher bahar banu… ”), Ner (“ Borei me’orei ha’esh ”), habdalah (“ Hamavdil bein kodesh l’kodesh ”) and Zeman (“ shehehey- anu ”). 10) Reciting Habdalah later during the seder If one forgot to recite habdalah during kiddush and realized his mistake : • Before partaking of karpas: Take the cup of wine, recite the berachah over the candle (“ Borei me’orei ha’esh ”) followed by habdalah , and then drink the wine without reciting the berachah of “ borei peri ha’gefen .” • After beginning the Maggid section, but before the second cup of wine: Follow the procedure above, however, one must ensure not to drink anything, including water, in any amount, until he completes Maggid . • After beginning the meal : Recite habdalah during the meal with the berachah of hagefen , unless he normally drinks wine during meals, in which case he omits the berachah of hagefen . • After reciting birkat hamazon : Recite hagefen over the third cup of wine, followed by the berachah on the candle and habdalah . • After drinking the third cup of wine: Complete hallel and then recite the berachah over the fourth cup of wine, followed by the berachah over the candle and then habdalah . • After drinking the fourth cup: Recite the berachah over a cup of wine, followed by the berachah on the candle and then habdalah .
