Star-K, March 20, 2008 GE Star K Certified Group 2 and Group 3 Ovens , will not have the Sabbath Mode fix available before Passover. Therefore, for Group 3 Built-in ovens: ZET1SM, ZET1PM, ZET2SM, or ZET2PM (made from April 2007 to date) in order to be able to open the oven door on Shabbat or YomTov, you will need to tape down the plunger switch with metallic tape. For both Group 2 and Group 3 ovens, you can raise the temperature on Yom Tov, but after doing so you must wait 30 minutes before opening the door. Opening the oven door within that 30 minute time span will deactivate a fan. This is not a problem when lowering the temperature. Kof-K, March 13, 2008 Cantaloupe from Agropecuaria Montelibano Honduras , has been associated with a Salmonella Litchfield outbreak affecting 59 people in the United States and Canada including cases in NY and NJ. Consumers should check with the place of purchase if the fruit came from this specific grower and packer. If so, consumers should throw away the cantaloupes. The FDA recommends consumers take the following steps to reduce the risk of contracting Salmonella or other foodborne illnesses from cantaloupes. Purchase cantaloupes that are not bruised or damaged. If buying fresh-cut cantaloupe, be sure it is refrigerated or surrounded by ice. After purchase, refrigerate cantaloupes promptly. Wash hands with hot, soapy water before and after handling fresh cantaloupes. Scrub whole cantaloupes by using a clean pro- duce brush and cool tap water – not soap or detergents – immediately before eating. Use clean cutting surfaces and uten- sils when cutting cantaloupes. Wash cutting boards, countertops, dishes, and utensils with hot water and soap between the preparation of raw meat, poultry, or sea- food and the preparation of cantaloupe. If there happens to be a bruised or damaged area on a cantaloupe, cut away those parts before eating it. Leftover cut cantaloupe should be discarded if left at room temperature for more than two hours. Use a cooler with ice or use ice gel packs when transporting or storing canta- loupes outdoors. FDA, March 22, 2008 Mishpacha High Gluten Flour , has been found to contain insects. The 5 lb. bags Lot #D7A17A (other lot numbers may be affected as well) should be sifted before use. If flour was already used, the rest of the bag should be checked. If insects are found, the food should not be eaten. If the flour has been used up, the food that was pre- pared can be assumed to be bug-free. All-Purpose Mishpacha flour should preferably be checked as well.
