fashion flash A floral festival is in full swing! I’m not sure whether we’ve time traveled back to the flower power 60’s, or if these budding accessories are just a signal that summer is in full bloom. Either way, these bouncy blossoms are now gracing more than just our backyards. Skirts, shoes, clutches, even jewelry, all fresh for the picking, have begun sprouting some pretty plant life, in some very summery materials. Linen and raffia, silk shantung, and woven straw are but a sampling of the whimsical touches in which these fine florals have taken shape. And jewelry burgeoning with swarovski crystals and mother of pearl accents is nothing short of breathtaking. While there’s obviously no better way to epitomize summer than to don a fresh flower (or a flower applique), there are some things to keep in mind. One floral accessory or article of clothing should suffice for each singular outfit, otherwise you may wind up looking like an uncultivated garden. On the other hand, don’t take matching too seriously when trying to coordinate a busy floral with a solid; sometimes a little mismatching looks all the better- just look at all the beautiful hybrids in your yard! So, take to the garden this summer, and pick a few fresh florals for a winning (never wilted!) ensemble.
