Price of admission: $8 p/p, family memberships available. Hours and days: 10am-5pm Wed-Sun during the school year, also Tues during the summer. Venue: completely indoors – not weather dependant. Long Island Children’s Museum is two floors of wonderful exhibits, especially geared for kids, ages two through ten. This fun, kid-friendly venue should definately change their name to LIC’s Fun and Learning Center, because a dusty obscure muse- um, this is not. No glassed in cases of ancient relics here, rather, well lit airy rooms filled with hands-on entertainment. The various well defined sections include: b A huge climbing aparatus, safe and well designed. b A bubble room, I personally enjoyed this one a lot. b An oversized room filled with all sorts of sand toys. b A music section including an electronic “recording studio”. b A TV studio where YOU are the anchor on tonight’s news broadcast- way cool! b An entire room filled with bricks, tracks, and blocks galore. For a Minha minyan, contact the Young Israel of West Hempstead at (516) 481-7429. They are a 20 minute drive from the museum at 630 Hempstead Ave, and Minha starts about 15 minutes before sunset. For lunch or dinner, continue 4 minutes down Hempstead Ave. to Hunki’s Pizzeria, (Vaad Harabonim of Queens) 338 Hempstead Ave. (516) 538-6655. You’ll find a very welcoming atmosphere and surprisingly tasty pizza and dairy food. They really offer excellent service with a smile. All in all, Long Island Children’s Museum is a great destination for the young family. It’s easy on Mom and Dad, fun for the kids, and perfect when the weather’s either too hot, too wet, or too cold to be outdoors. A lovely day trip, with or without the add-ons.
