40 COMMUNITY MAGAZINE s ” xc What’s Bothering You Dear Community Magazine, The residents of the East 30’s neighbor- hood would like to appeal to our government representatives to decrease the hours of alter- nate side parking regulations from 3 hours (twice per week) to 1 ½ hours, like most of the Flatbush/Midwood area. The rest of the neigh- borhood has the privilege of not having to worry early in the AM about moving their cars to (nonexistent) legal parking spots – or having the luxury of moving back, after 1 ½ hours, not 3. Why is it so different in our neighborhood? We’d appreciate being represented. Thanks. Joyce Goldberg Dear Joyce, As you perceptively noticed, certain neigh- borhoods only have 90 minute alternate side schedules. Eventually though, the Department of Sanitation, which is responsible for the street cleaning that necessitates alternate side parking rules, will transition the entire city to the 90 minute schedule. According to the Sanitation department, the plan, being carried out in stages by community board districts, is designed to help the department slowly reschedule street cleaning to handle the short- er window. Most recently neighborhoods in Queens and the Bronx have been transitioned. Community boards in Brooklyn will follow although the exact schedule is not clear. For more information on a particular district, con- tact your local City Councilman. Most of the East 30’s neighborhood is part of the 46th City Council District which is represented by Councilman Lewis Fidler (718) 241-9330. The Avenue J and K area of the East 30’s is in the 45th district of Councilman Kendall Stewart (718) 951-8177 and the lower East 30’s between Avenues K to M are represented by Councilman Michael C. Nelson (718) 368-9176 of the 48th district.
