44 COMMUNITY MAGAZINE s ” xc A lthough the current weather may not be very permissive of it, the new spring fashion has stormed (no pun intended) into bou- tiques, and with it some strong trends have emerged. Designers have rebelled against the the free spirited, bohemian, peasant look that was dominant last year, and instead shifted their looks to a ladylike sophistication, prim, proper and perfectly put together. Much of the season’s looks are reminiscent of 50’s fashions, complete with pretty details such as eyelet trim and lace. The season’s shoes and accessories echo this movement; the runways were peppered with dozens of open toe slingbacks and mary janes, ornamented with ladylike bows and laser cutouts. And the accessory du jour? The white leather bag – a perfect complement to the demure look of spring, in the color of the season. An offshoot of this conservative glamor is the new preppy look, which was also rampant on the runways.
